TROY — Sidney Post 217 coach Jim Koewler has been saying that his team is playing for a good seed in the upcoming district tournament.

Chances are, he can put those concerns behind him after his team beat Troy 4-1 Wednesday night on the road to remain unbeaten against league opponents.

The win, which came on the heels of a 7-0 blanking of league foe Piqua on Tuesday, puts Sidney at 4-0 in the league and 22-12 overall going into action Thursday in the Best of Ohio Tournament, with two games scheduled.

Sidney got another excellent pitching performance, with Josh Nixon and Cam Clark combining on a five-hitter, with four strikeouts and five walks.

Post 217’s offense was in gear, with 12 hits, including a 4 for 5 night for Drew Wehrman, all of them singles.

Clark and Daniel Berning added two singles apiece.

Sidney scored once in the top of the first on successive singles by Austin McLain, Wehrman and Nixon.

It stayed at 1-0 until the fifth, when Post 217 added another run. Berning singled and moved to second on a wild pickoff throw from the catcher. He was sacrificed to third and Wehrman got another single to plate him.

In the top of the seventh, Sidney scored again after two were out. Berning singled, McLain was hit by a pitch, and Wehrman again came through with a run-scoring base hit.

After Troy got its only run in the bottom of the seventh, Sidney tacked on an insurance run in the ninth when Dakota Bollinger walked, Berning was hit by a pitch, and Wehrman again produced a run with a base hit, his third RBI of the night.

“This was another key win for us because it puts us at 4-0 in the league with games against Greenville and Troy next week,” said Koewler. “Our kids are giving 110 percent as we wind down toward district tournament play. Josh Nixon did another good job on the mound and Cam Clark did a great job of closing it out in the ninth. And Drew Wehrman had three big hits for us.”
