Sidney’s Thomas, Nussall-GWOC in volleyball

The All-Greater Western Ohio Conference American League volleyball team was announced recently, and Sidney had two players make the squad, one on first team and one on second.

Senior Amanda Thomas was named to the first team. She finished the season with a team-high 241 kills for 3.26 per set. She also had 78 total blocks, which put her third in the American League, and 46 digs.

Nuss, meanwhile, finished as the American League’s fifth-highest setter, totaling 549 assists. She also had 124 digs.

The American League consists of both North and South divisions, for 11 teams in all. Four of the six North teams finished with winning records, and Sidney was 11-12.

None of the teams in the South division finished above .500, Xenia winning the division title with an 8-6 league record.

North champion Troy had the North Coach of the Year in Michelle Owen and the co-Athlete of the Year with Katie DeMeo. Zoie Franklin of Vandalia shared the award with her.

Troy had three players named to the first team and two to the second. Runner-up Tipp City had two on the first team and one on the second, Vandalia two on the first and second teams, and Piqua two on the first and one on the second.
