Community invited to birthday party for Jesus

SIDNEY — The children’s choir at Sidney First United Methodist church has been working very hard since September, preparing for their annual Christmas Musical. This year, director Lisa Whittenberger and Children and Family Pastor, the Rev. Eileen Hix selected “Special Delivery: Wrapped in the Father’s Love” for the event.

“Each year we try to choose a musical that will be fun for the kids and still drive home the point of the true meaning of Christmas,” said Hix. “This year, the show takes place in Heaven, as the kids portray angels in the ‘God Squad’ – all waiting for something miraculous to happen down on earth.”

Whittenberger adds, “This musical for kids shares the excitement of Jesus’ arrival and finally the hope of His return. Each song draws children closer to His heart — giving them the confidence to declare His love.”

This musical, open to the community, will be performed on Sunday, Dec. 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the church, located at 230 E. Poplar in Sidney. Immediately following the performance will be a birthday party for Jesus. Everyone is welcome to attend and share in some birthday cake. Those that wish to bring a gift in honor of baby Jesus are welcome to do so. This year, the church is collecting baby-related items that will be donated to the local women’s shelter.

“Kids typically bring birthday presents to a birthday party,” said Hix. “So each year, we select a local mission or philanthropy to support and we encourage attendees to bring a gift to honor the baby Jesus at the birthday party we have in His honor following the show. This year we selected the local women’s shelter.”
