Musical cantata set for Sunday

SIDNEY — The First Presbyterian Church, located at 202 N. Miami Ave. in Sidney will celebrate the Advent season with a musical cantata Sunday, Dec. 18, at 10:30 a.m.

Composed by Mark Hayes, “Candles and Carols” is a candlelight Advent journey that celebrates the traditional themes of hope, peace, joy and love, culminating in the birth of Christ. An Advent candle is lit before each carol sung, providing a visual symbol of the journey from darkness to light.”

Songs include traditional Christmas carols, including “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel,” “Love Came Down at Christmas,” “Silent Night” and others.

Everyone is welcome to attend this special worship service, held in the First Presbyterian Church sanctuary, which is handicap accessible. The Christian Education Committee will host a “Happy Birthday Jesus” party immediately after the service, for adults and children of all ages.

Worship services for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day include a traditional candlelight service at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 24, a communion service at 11 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 24, and a prayer gathering at 10:30 a.m. on Christmas Day. All are welcome to join in the celebration the birth of Jesus during these services.
