SIDNEY — A Sidney man will be serving five years of community control in both Auglaize and Shelby Counties for leading police on a high-speed chase in August.

Joshua R. Bell, 23, entered a guilty plea to an amended charge of failure to comply with signal of police officer, a felony of the fourth-degree in Shelby County Common Pleas Court, and to a charge of fleeing and eluding, a felony of the third-degree in Auglaize County Common Pleas Court, according to court records.

The high-speed pursuit, on Aug. 25, began in St. Marys when a St. Marys Police Officer attempted to pull him over for speeding on Indiana Avenue. He then eluded officers by driving at speeds over 100 mph into Shelby County where he was eventually stopped by Sidney Police and taken into custody.

According to court records, Shelby County Judge James Stevenson sentenced Bell last week to five years of probation, a $500 fine, and his driver’s license be suspended for three years. He was also ordered to continue mental health counseling.

Auglaize County Judge Frederick Pepple sentenced Bell on Monday to five years of probation, a $10,000 fine with $7,500 suspended as long as he does not violate the conditions of his probation, and 180 days in jail with two days credit. He was also ordered to maintain full employment and not to leave the state of Ohio without the permission of his probation officer. Judge Pepple also ordered his driver’s license be suspended for three years, according to court records.

As a condition of his probation Bell will have no access to any gaming device, including the internet, as the shooter and racing games he plays are believed to have had an impact on him committing the offense.
