Gallery to feature Maas works

0

SIDNEY — Marcia Maas will be the featured artist during January and February in the Gateway Arts Council Gallery, 216 N. Miami Ave.

Her show’s title, “Growing,” describes the two elements that are the focus of this exhibit. First, it illustrates the evolution of Maas’s painting and drawing throughout the years, the development of style and changes in subject matter, the amount of work and personal growth as an artist. In addition, “Growing” showcases the accumulation of knowledge that Maas gained as an instructor of art for 36 years.

The second element in “Growing” represents the artist’s deeply-rooted love of nature and natural things. Her passion for nature is a driving force in her life and is a recurring theme in her work. Trees, flowers, landscapes and people are what inspire Maas to put brush to canvas or pencil to paper.

Mass is a graduate of Bowling Green State University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in art education. She has attended workshops by or taken lessons from Homer Hacker, Don Getz, Jim Glover, Chris Leeper and Steven Walker. Maas taught art in St. Marys City Schools, St. Joseph’s School and Lehman Catholic High School.

The exhibit will open Jan. 16 and run through Feb. 16, weekdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Evening and weekend hours are by appointment. Admission is free to the reception and to the exhibit. There will be an opening reception from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 22.
