Steamboats may again pass Loramie, Newport and Lockington. State Senator W.C. Geare, of Wyandot County, plans to introduce a bill in the next general assembly which would result in selling all the canal lands and canal properties of the state, except the Miami and Erie Canal between Toledo and Cincinnati, and that portion of the Ohio Canal between Cleveland and Dresden. Proceeds of such sale would be used to widen and deepen the two canals to make them navigable for steamboats. It is estimated about $18,000,000 would be required to improve the Miami and Erie Canal, and $10,000,000 for the Ohio Canal.
