December 16, 1891

The insane ward of the infirmary is under roof. Some of the material for the floor has not arrived and the completion of the interior is a matter of some conjecture. It had been hoped to have the building ready by Jan. 1, but this now is impossible.

100 Years

December 16, 1916

The John Wagner Brewing Co. officials said this morning that if the cold weather continues the firm will probably start cutting ice on Dec. 21 and men and teams will be needed to haul the ice.

75 Years

December 16, 1941

The Rose Bowl game between Duke and Oregon State, previously ordered cancelled for military reasons, has been rescheduled and will be played in the Duke stadium. There has been no decision on the annual Shrine East-West game scheduled for San Francisco and also ordered canceled by the army.

Admiral William H. Standley, who presented the Navy’s Bureau of Ordinance flag and “E” pennant to the Monarch Machine Tool Co. here on Armistice Day, has been named by President Roosevelt to the special board of inquiry into the Pearl Harbor attack.

25 Years

December 16, 1991

Peeking out from her Christmas stocking to wish a Christmas hello is this doll drawn by Erinn Soteriou, 13859 Sidney-Freyburg Road, Anna, an Anna School sixth grader. There are now nine days until Christmas.

RUSSIA – A king and queen will be crowned Friday night and a dance will be held Saturday night as Russia High School celebrates homecoming this weekend. Senior attendants for queen are: Amy Grieshop, Caray Shappie and Carmen Voisard. Senior attendants for king are: Kenneth Bergman, Scott Borchers, and David Guillozet.
