SIDNEY — Scouts, Parents and Leaders from Venturing Crew 970 recently completed their first service project in the community in conjunction with Saint Paul’s United Church of Christ at 707 North Ohio Avenue, where the unit is chartered.

Members and friends of the church conducted daily devotionals with their families, learning about their faith on their spiritual journey through the season of Advent, and placing a food item in a box each day, with the goal of providing a complete Christmas meal to a family in need.

On Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2016, a special Advent service was held at the church to collect 42 food boxes, and provide an Advent blessing upon them for the families who would receive them. Then the following evening, Venturing Crew 970 began distributing these boxes to families in the immediate neighborhood of the Church as an outreach mission of Saint Paul’s United Church of Christ. Recipients were offered these food boxes from the Church in the spirit of giving, and if not needed, were asked to pass them on to other people in need.

Venturing Crew 970, part of the Boy Scouts of America, provides a year-round program for young men and women who are 14 (or 13 years of age and have completed the eighth grade) through 21 years of age to provide positive experiences through exciting and meaningful youth-run activities that help them pursue their special interests, grow by teaching others, and develop leadership skills.

Saint Paul’s United Church of Christ has weekly worship at 10:15 a.m. each Sunday, as well as lots of other program offerings throughout the week. More information can be found at www.saintpaulssidney.org.
