The application deadline for Master Gardener Training to be held in March and April is fast approaching: We need your applications by Friday, Jan. 13! The New and Small Farm College hosted by OSU Extension in Auglaize and Hardin Counties will be held on Thursday evenings, Jan. 19 through March 9, at the OSU Lima Campus. Each session begins with a light supper at 6 p.m. with the program conducted 6:30 to 9 p.m.

This program is designed for those interested in starting or expanding a small farming operation: Getting Started (goal setting, business planning, resources, etc.); Sources of Assistance (government agencies, grants, etc.); Financial & Production Recordkeeping and Taxes (balance sheets, etc.); and Marketing (cooperatives, direct marketing, niche markets, etc.).

The cost for this program is $150 and includes a binder of resource materials, meals, and one soil sample evaluation. Additional family members can attend for $100 each; no extra binder. We have fliers available in our office, or you can go to www.agnr.osu.edu/small-farm-programs for more information. Enrollment deadline is Jan. 2nd!

The 2017 Ohio Beef School webinar series will begin on Jan. 17 at locations in both Auglaize and Darke County. Additional evenings in the series will be held Feb. 7 and 28. Each evening’s webinar will be broadcast live beginning at 7 p.m.

The focus of this series is profitability: in the cow/calf sector (Jan. 17), management of feeder cattle from cow to feedyard (Feb. 7), and consumer demands and whether the entire production system – cow/calf through the feedyard and to the retailer – is meeting those demands and what it will take to achieve that goal (Feb. 28).

For more information, contact Jeff Stachler (419-739-6580; [email protected]) for the Auglaize County location or Sam Custer (937-548-5215; [email protected]) for the Darke County location.
