Anna purchases land for future expansion

ANNA — In December the village of Anna purchased about 4.5 acres of property for future expansion opportunities.

“The village has no immediate plans for the property but it was purchased because it is strategically located on the east side of the Wastewater Treatment Plant and on the north side of the Anna Community Park, either of which might need to expand in the future,” Village Administrator Wayne York said.

The property is the former Westerheide property, located at 402 W. Walnut St. As part of the purchase, the Village has erected a street name sign on North First Street at the WESTERHEIDE LANE which will honor the family home.

The Westerheide family has 90 days to remove any remaining contents from the house and barn. After that, the Anna Fire Department will be given the opportunity to conduct whatever sort of training it can do on the house, York said. Demolition will follow.

“The purchase price of $125,000 was divided between various funds of the village and did not exceed the appraised value of the land,” York said.

This map shows the location of a section of property the village of Anna recently purchased for future economic development. The location of the land is ideal because it’s north of the community park and east of the wastewater treatment plant.
