The contract for putting up a new factory of the Sidney Carriage and Buggy Co., which comes here from Bellefontaine, has been awarded to Joseph Altenbach for $8,695. The main portion of the building will be 150 by 60 feet, three stories high.
100 Years
January 4, 1917
With the idea that nothing is too good in the way of telephone services for the people of Shelby County, the board of directors of the Sidney Home Telephone Co. have decided to install a semi-automatic telephone system. The contracts have now been closed and the new system will be in operation by March or April. Under the new system, when the person picks up the receiver, a girl will answer and make the necessary connection.
75 Years
January 4, 1942
The initial service in the universal week of prayer being sponsored by the Sidney churches will be held this evening in the First Methodist Church. Similar services will be held in that church each evening during the week, with the following ministers as leaders: Rev. D.L. Browning, Rev. W. Wood Duff, Rev. E.L. Hurley, Rev. S.S. Blough, and Rev. M.L. Garberson.

Moving to mobilize the full manpower of the nation that is available for actual military service, President Roosevelt today issued a proclamation ordering all men between 20 and 45 to register on Feb. 16 under the new draft law.
50 Years
January 4, 1967
Leroy Bishop, immediate past governor of Division Three, officiated at installation ceremonies Wednesday when the Sidney Kiwanis Club seated Raphael Echemann as 1967 president. Echemann succeeds Herbert Schlater. Schlater automatically becomes a member of the board of directors.
Others installed were Don Bollinger, first vice president; John Miller, second vice president; Robert Peters, secretary; and John Klipstine, treasurer.
25 Years
January 4, 1992
Officers were elected at the annual, day-long, organizational meeting of the Shelby County Junior Fair Board held Monday in the meeting rooms of the County Extension Office. Hope Evans, 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Doug Evans, 15280 Lochard Road, Anna, was elected president.
