Lima boy launches balloons for mom

LIMA — Logan Buehler is 7 years old with a heart as big as anyone 10 times his age.

To recognize the one-year anniversary of the death of his mother, Allison Buehler, he asked his dad, Brandon, if they could release purple balloons, his mom’s favorite color. The 500 purple balloons were launched from a trailer in the front yard of Logan’s home on Lakewood Avenue at 10:35 a.m., the exact time of Allison’s death in 2016.

Allison died last year after battling breast cancer for five and a half years.

“Logan wrote names on some of the balloons and even put his dad’s phone number on one,” said Diane Lee, Allison’s mother. “This was all his idea.”

Jim Lee, Allison’s father, read a prayer to Allison prior to the balloon release.

The snow was light and falling gracefully as the balloons were released, something that Allison would have loved.

“Allison loved the snow. This is exactly how she would have wanted it,” Diane said.

Inside, Logan pointed out the dining room color, blue, and said his mom painted it that color. He ran to retrieve his “angel bear” that his mother made him. The bear is made from Allison’s pajama top that she wore.

His dad, Brandon, started a new job as a Lima ranger on Tuesday. To Brandon’s surprise, he woke up to two letters, one from Logan and one from Allison, both in Logan’s handwriting. The letters wished him luck with his new job and told him to have a good day. A sucker and fruit chews were on top of the letters.

“Logan has a lot of Allison in him. He’s very sentimental,” Brandon said.
