Real estate tax bills mailed to property owners

SIDNEY — Shelby County Treasurer Linda Meininger has announced the first half real estate tax bills were mailed Jan. 11, 2017. The final date for payment of these bills will be Feb. 14, 2017.

Payment may be made by check, money order, cash or online bill-pay to Linda Meininger, Shelby County Treasurer. Property owners should use the 12 digit parcel number as their account number. Any payment received with a Feb. 14 postmark or before will not receive a penalty.

Payments may also be placed in the locked drop box available at the front of the building.

The Treasurer’s Office accepts credit cards: Visa, MasterCard and Discover. The taxpayer is responsible for the convenience fee of 2.95 percent.

If you have a change of mailing address or do not receive a bill, property owners should contact the Treasurer’s Office. Failure to receive a bill does not excuse a property owner from paying nor relieve them of the mandatory penalty and/or interest.

The Treasurer’s Office has pre-pay available and the office can debit checking or savings accounts for payments, whether they are bi-annually or monthly. An agreement will need to be signed.

For taxpayers 65 and older or permanently disabled there is a homestead reduction, which also applies to some military. Contact the Shelby County Auditor’s Office with any questions. The owner occupied credit is applied for in the Auditor’s Office also.

Active military personnel are allowed an extension of time for payment of real estate and manufactured home tax according to House Bill 390. This application is in the Treasurer’s office.

The office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays and 8:30 a.m. to noon on Fridays. The officeis located on the third floor of the Shelby County Annex at 129 E. Court St., Sidney, Ohio.
