January 13, 1892

The street mailboxes are being distributed this afternoon. There are only 20 of them. That they will be widely scattered in order to cover the town is apparent when it is remembered there are 63 electric laps, and these are far apart. The locations of all boxes will be made available tomorrow.

100 Years

January 13, 1917

The first real snow storm of the winter appeared headed this way today, with the weather bureau reporting sub-zero temperatures for this area by tomorrow. The mercury was already down to 20 and 30 degrees below zero in the upper mid-western states and Canada.

Frances Gallimore was elected president of the Fidae Puellae class of the UB Church Sunday School, when the group met in the home of the teacher, Mrs. Rhodes last evening. Marie Stoker was named vice president; Marie Stephens, secretary; Mable Potts, assistant secretary; and Mable Frazier, treasurer.

Miss Mary A. Young left today for Columbus to attend the convention of the Ohio City Editor’s Association of which she is state secretary.

75 Years

January 13, 1942

No orders for new tires or tubes have been issued nor will be issued until the early part of next week, according to the announcement made this morning by Oscar Barringer, county coordinator of the tire rationing board. Barringer said the allotment of tires for the county for the month of January is 20 passenger tires and 46 truck tires.

Mrs. W.H.C. Goode, Miss Frances Goode and William Goode are moving back during the early part of this week into Whitby Place, North Ohio Avenue, which was heavily damaged by fire last March. During the rebuilding the family resided in the W.C. Horr family home at 122 North Ohio Avenue.

50 Years

January 13, 1967

Harry Meyer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Meyer, 1143 Fairmont Drive, will be the candidate of the Miami Valley Council of Boy Scouts for selection by Region Four as the “Report to the Nation Scout.”

Announcement of Meyer’s selection was made Thursday night by Herman Lehman, president of the Miami Valley Council during the 50th annual meeting in Dayton.

VERSAILLES – Sue Adams, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Adams, will be a guest on the “Spotlight on Youth” television program at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

January 13, 1992

Following a nationwide trend of slumping auto sales, purchases of new cars by Shelby Countians fell by 30 percent during 1991, according to an annual report filed by the title department of the Shelby County Clerk of Courts office.

The new car sales last year totaled 776, down from 1,101 the previous year. In all, a total of 1,416 new vehicles were titled to Shelby County residents, down from 1,800 in 1990. That total includes new trucks, vans and other vehicles.
