Russia wins, meets Versailles today

RUSSIA — The Russia girls won in County play Thursday night to set the stage for a showdown with backyard rival Versailles on Saturday in girls basketball action.

The Lady Raiders took care of Houston 58-36 in County play at home Thursday night to remain atop the league standings at 5-1.

They are now 12-1 overall and make the short trip to Versailles Saturday to face the 12-1 Lady Tigers.

Houston falls to 1-5 in the County and 4-10 overall and hosts Anna on Thursday in its next outing.

Russia led 13-7 after a quarter and stretched it out to 32-20 at the half.

Maria Herron led three Lady Raiders in double figures with 17, Laurissa Poling had 11 and Cameo Wilson 10. Two others had eight.

Sarah Monnier had 12 for the Lady Wildcats.

BOTKINS — The Botkins Lady Trojans kept Fairlawn searching for its first win of the season with a 53-25 victory in County action Thursday at Botkins.

The Lady Trojans go to 4-2 in the league and 10-2 overall with a game at home Tuesday against Jackson Center.

Fairlawn falls to 0-6 in the league and 0-12 overall and is at Riverside today.

Botkins broke away from a 29-10 halftime lead to a 44-16 advantage after three quarters.

Sarah Bergman scored seven of her game-high 15 points in that quarter.

New Knoxville 40, DSJ 32

NEW KNOXVILLE — New Knoxville evened its record on the year at 7-7 and in the Midwest Athletic Conference at 2-2 with a 40-32 win over visiting Delphos St. John’s in action at Knoxville Thursday.

The Lady Rangers will be back in action Thursday at St. Henry, where they will be shooting for their fourth win in a row.

Knoxville led by just two at the half after scoring only four points in the third quarter. But the Lady Rangers outscored Delphos 13-5 in the third quarter to open up a 10-point lead.

Kenzie Schroer led Knoxville again, finishing with 14 points.

Lehman 48, Lima Perry 17

Lehman remained one game behind in the Northwest Central Conference standings after a 48-17 rout of Lima Perry Thursday at Lehman.

The Lady Cavs are now 1-3 in the league and 5-7 overall and host Jackson Center today.

The first and third quarters were big for the Lady Cavs. They outscored Perry 29-3 in those two periods, including 18-1 in the third quarter.

Hannah Fogt had 12 to lead Lehman, which had 10 players score.

Waynesfield 48, Riverside 45

WAYNESFIELD — Riverside fell just short of knocking Waynesfield out of second place in the NWCC, losing a 48-45 thriller in overtime Thursday.

The loss left the Lady Pirates at 0-3 in the league and 1-11 overall heading to Fairlawn today.

Riverside rallied from a 32-29 deficit in the final period to send the game to overtime, but was outscored 11-8 in the extra session.

Marissa Davis had 14 for the Lady Pirates and Kreglow added 10.
