SIDNEY — The Sidney/Shelby County Fire Investigation Unit and the State Fire Marshall’s office are investigating the cause of a fire Tuesday evening.
At 9:25 p.m., Sidney firefighters were dispatched to a report of a structure fire at 1338 Tully Drive. Sidney, Ohio. The structure, a single-story duplex, is owned by Tom and Stephanie Frantz and managed by Jeff Baker. The structure is occupied by Robert Johnson, 1338 Tully, and John and Linda Kelly, 1340 Tully.
During the response, a large volume of fire and smoke could be seen from several blocks away. A box alarm was called to recall all off-duty Sidney Fire personnel and mutual aid was received from Anna and Lockington Fire Department’s for manpower.
When Sidney firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear of the home. Firefighters battled the well involved fire for approximately one hour before it was brought under control. Vectren and DP&L were called to the scene to secure the utilities to the structure.
The home received heavy fire, smoke and water damage to the entire structure. Damage was estimated at $150,000 to the structure and $70,000 to the contents. Firefighters remained on the scene for approximately 5 hours to search for any hidden fire and assist with the investigation.
There were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters during the firefighting operations.
