Ohio Living Dorothy Love experiences growth, change in 2016

SIDNEY — Ohio Living Dorothy Love has been a valuable member of the Sidney community, offering independent living homes and apartments, assisted living, skilled nursing and rehabilitation services.

“In 2016, we experienced much growth and change that will allow us to better serve the Sidney community going forward,” said Executive Director Tricia Atwood.

Her report continues:

On Oct. 28, our parent company, Ohio Presbyterian Retirement Services, changed its name to Ohio Living. As a result, each of the organization’s 12 life plan communities, including Dorothy Love, added Ohio Living to their existing community names – turning Dorothy Love Retirement Community to Ohio Living Dorothy Love. Additionally, Senior Independence, our home health and hospice provider changed its name to Ohio Living Home Health & Hospice and our charitable foundation is now Ohio Living Foundation.

We are very excited about this change and believe it will bring a bright future as we continue to offer high-quality care and services to you under the unified name of Ohio Living. Please rest assured that this rebranding effort is not the result or a merger, acquisition or change in ownership. Rather, it was the result of a thoughtful process that sought to honor the company’s nearly 95-year history while remaining relevant to current generations and those well into the future. Our people, mission and ownership remain the same.

We chose the name Ohio Living because it embodies the essence of who we are as an organization – a community of people who celebrate living. It is our deepest desire to provide others with opportunities to live life to the fullest by joining alongside them to make each day count. This new brand is an expression of our organizational values and speaks to the principles we were founded on in caring for Ohioans.

Additionally, in June 2016, Ohio Living Dorothy Love broke ground on the Sargeant Family Center for Aquatic Therapy & Rehab. The project doubled the size of our existing therapy gym and features a HydroWorx 2000 therapy pool, which provides a warm, soothing therapy environment that puts less stress on joints or painful areas. This is conducive to a faster, more successful recovery. The state-of-the-art therapy pool offers underwater cameras for observation by the therapist, moveable resistance jets, an integrated treadmill and rising floor for easy access.

The rehab center, named for brothers and long-time supporters John and Bob Sargeant, was funded by an Ohio Living Foundation capital campaign for which they served as honorary co-chairs. The campaign exceeded its fundraising goal, demonstrating the strong support for this kind of therapy in the Sidney area.

The new center will pair nicely with our Rehab Studios that were opened in October 2015, offering comfortable, private accommodations to rehab patients as they recover from an injury, illness or surgery.

The Sargeant Family Center for Aquatic Therapy & Rehab will open in January 2017 and will offer physical, speech and occupational therapy to both Ohio Living Dorothy Love residents and those in the Sidney area, providing personalized recovery plans using the latest equipment and innovative techniques.

At Ohio Living Dorothy Love, we have been evolving and changing for more than 94 years and 2016 was another great example of how we will continue changing to meet the needs of our community. We look forward to continuing to serve you with these expanded offerings in 2017.
