Free wood at Lake Loramie Park

MINSTER — The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) is removing hazardous trees from Lake Loramie State Park and wood will be available beginning today.

The removed trees will be available for residents to collect for their own use, but residents must cut the trees themselves. Only trees provided by the ODNR Division of Forestry and located at the designated park pick-up areas may be collected and removed.

Those areas include the Daniel’s Picnic Area behind the park office, the Visitor’s Parking Lot near the campground across the street from Morrie’s Landing restaurant and the beach area. Removal of any standing or fallen trees outside of the designated pick-up areas will be prohibited.

Firewood will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, and the department makes no guarantee that the supply will be available for the full duration of the designated timeframe. Free firewood may be collected during daylight hours only.

The use of chainsaws, log-splitters, axes, mauls, as well as any other hand tools or powered equipment, for further processing of the firewood at or adjacent to the collection area is permitted. Vehicles must remain in the designated parking areas.
