BOTKINS — Botkins Police arrested a man suspected of trying to rob a person depositing money at the ATM at the US Bank, 108 S. Mill St.

According to Chief Wayne T. “Tom” Glass Jr., officers were dispatched to the bank Thursday, March 2, at 8:48 p.m. on a report of an armed robbery. The suspect, later identified as Miguel Junior Rodriguez Rolon, had walked up to the victim’s vehicle while she was depositing money into the ATM. Rolon allegedly brandished a gun and demanded all the victim’s money.

After not getting any money from the victim, the suspect fled on foot westbound. The area was checked both by a K-9 and multiple marked police units without any success, said Glass.

Later in the evening the Botkins Police received a call from a local citizen reporting footprints outside their window. Offices responded to the area and started checking the area.

Officers located footprints in the snow and followed them leading them to Rolon at his residence. Rolon was confronted and taken into custody around 3:30 a.m. Friday without incident and later confessed to the robbery. Rolon was charged with one count of robbery, a second degree felony, and booked into the Shelby County Jail.

He was scheduled to be arraigned in Sidney Municipal Court Friday at 9 a.m.

During the investigation several other burglaries were solved and additional evidence was recovered. Glass thinks the evidence found solves four burglaries in the village. Surrounding village law enforcement departments were notified of the arrest and evidence for them to examine to see if the items came from any unsolved burglaries in their villages.

The Botkins Police Department was assisted by Anna Police, Fort Loramie Police, Jackson Center Police and K-9, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and a local citizen.

“Without the cooperation all of the above agencies and a citizen, the suspect wouldn’t have been caught,” said Glass.
