National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) Shelby County Chapter representative Steve Huecker, left, of Anna, talks with Jared Rourke, 17, of Sidney, son of Tim Rourke and Julie Dagani, during the annual Shelby County National Wild Turkey Banquet Friday, March 3. Rourke was awarded a $500 scholarship from the Shelby County Sharp Spurs. According to the NWTF. “The NWTF was founded in 1973 as a conservation organization to reestablish the population of the wild turkey. Throughout the years we have done that and also provided habitat for all wild animals. We also have special outreach programs for providing food for the hungry , scholarships for the youth, Women in the Outdoors and assist people with disabilities by giving them the opportunity to get out in the woods or field and do some hunting through our Wheel’N Sportsman Program. This year we gave 100 frozen turkeys to AGAPE to be distributed for Thanksgiving. Also this year we gave a $500 scholarship to Jared Rourke. He now has a chance for a $1000 scholarship at the state level and a $10,000 scholarship at the national level. This year we had approximately 190 people at our annual banquet to raise money for these programs. We also have an Archery instructor that works with organizations in the county with youth and adult events so keep us in mind if you need something there. We are always looking for volunteers so if you are interested in helping out call Steve Huecker at 937-538-0425.” Luke Gronneberg | Sidney Daily News
