COLUMBUS — The Versailles High School boys bowling team finished sixth in the Division 2 state tournament on Saturday at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl in the state capital.

The top eight teams qualified for the head-to-head matchups, and Versailles got there by placing fifth out of 16 teams with a 2838.

But in their first finals match, they took on St. Marys and lost 789 to 654. St. Marys would go on to win the state championship.

Jacob Wenig led the Tigers, placing 10th overall with a 629 on games of 223, 245 and 160.

Alex Groff was 20th with a 612, rolling games of 227, 205 and 180, and Luke Shellhaas was 32nd with games of 169, 205 and 212 for a 586.

Kyle Cotner added a 528 for 61st place, and had games of 194, 147 and 187.
