All-Star girls game set

The second annual Jim Dabbelt Miami Valley Underclass All-Star Girls Basketball Game will be held Thursday at Urbana High School.

Forty of the top girls’ basketball players in the region, ranging from freshmen through juniors, will be participatingin the all-star event.

Two games will be played that evening, with the Division 1-2 game at 6 p.m., followed by the Division 3-4 game at 7:30.

Dabbelt, a Tipp City resident who is finishing his 32nd year in girls’ basketball, authors The Dabbelt Report which promotes the sport throughout Ohio. The all-star teams are selected from Dabbelt’s all-area team which is published at the end of the regular season.

Among those playing in the D 3-4 game are junior Macey Huelskamp of Anna, and junior Sarah Bergman of Botkins, along with Kami McEldowney and Danielle Winner, both juniors, from state runner-up Versailles.

In the Division 1-2 game, the North roster will include Nyla Hampton and Mali Morgan, Wayne; Corinne Thomas and Presley Griffitts, Tecumseh; Nikki Current, Ben Logan; Cassidy Crawford, Willard; Willow Knight, Vandalia-Butler; Allison Mader, Tippecanoe; Mikala Morris, Kenton Ridge; and Reagan Ware, Greenon.

The South roster includes Bailey Draughn and Lexi Moore, Beavercreek; Mya Jackson, Wilmington; Lauren Hapgood, Oakwood; Cassidy Hofacker, Bellbrook; Maddy Westbeld, Fairmont; Annie Weckesser, Chaminade Julienne; Jordan Diehl, Springboro; Sam Chable, Centerville; and Hunter Stidham, Valley View.

Also playing for the West will be Corina Conley, Franklin Monroe; Grace Thein, Fort Recovery; Courtney Prenger, Minster; Aubrey Stupp, Tri-County North; Kristen Dickison, Milton-Union; and Macey Huelskamp, Anna; Sammi Whiteman, Covington; Tatum McBride, Newton; and Kami McEldowney and Danielle Winner, Versailles.

Playing for the East team will be Frankie Fife and Faith Strickle, Greeneview; Nicole Sims, Preble Shawnee, Christa Harris, Carlisle; Isabell, Bolender, Cedarville; Aubrianna Bellard, Middletown Christian; Kasey Schipfer, Mechanicsburg; Hayley Suchland, Northeastern; Sarah Bergman, Botkins; and McKenzi Saunders, Middletown Madison.

Also that evening, the seniors around the Miami Valley who were named to the all-area team will be recognized in between games.

Throughout the evening, a “Fill the Boot” raffle will also take place, to help with expenses endured for the family of West Liberty Salem student Logan Cole, who was injured in a school shooting back in January. Two Tiger Strong shirts, one signed by the West Liberty Salem girls’ basketball team, and another by the 40 girls participating in the game, will be raffled off to a pair of winners.

Also in attendance will be former Major League Baseball pitcher Joe Crawford, who just retired after 13 years as a coach with the Milwaukee Brewers. Crawford will be coaching one of the all-star teams, and will be donating his Brewers game jersey that will also be available in the auction.

Admission is $5 at the door.
