Geise joins fair board

SIDNEY — Tyler Geise has been elected by members of the Shelby County Agricultural Society (fair board) to fill an open seat on its board.

The action was taken during the fair board’s regular meeting, March 15.

Geise, along with Jamie Reese, Tim Everett, Mike York and Bill Frey were appointed to an ad hoc committee to develop rules and construct a course for a Ninja warrior competition to take place during the 2017 Shelby County Fair.

In other action, the board:

• Awarded a contract for electricity in the grandstand on the fairgrounds to Area Energy and Electric, whose quote to install the service was $36,710.

• Approved a 2017 Junior Fair budget of $22,350.

• Tabled a motion to allow beer sales and consumption in the grandstand during the fair.

• Approved the expenditure of an additional $540 for materials with which to complete a drainage project in the horse arena.

• Voted to schedule cheerleading at 1 p.m. and back-to-back truck pulls at 5 p.m. on the Sunday of the fair.

• Agreed to purchase 4,800 trash bags at an approximate cost of $2,800. The bags will be used during the fair.

• Voted to discuss with a dealer who had replaced a pump in the Case tractor the problems the tractor has had.

• Accepted reports by a representative of the Junior Fair Improvement Committee concerning a new structure the committee is building on the fairgrounds and by Reese on the progress of a new website.

• Welcomed the new 4-H educator, Cassandra Deitrich.
