Edison baseball sweepstwo from OU-Chillicothe

After a successful spring training trip to Florida, the Edison State baseball team returned to the diamond last week.

On Thursday, they traveled to Chillicothe and swept a doubleheader from the Ohio University branch campus, getting strong starting pitching in both games.

In game one, freshman Jackson Hobbs from Sidney went the distance, giving up one earned run, while striking out four. Jarob Negron of Puerto Rico hit a third-inning grand slam that gave Hobbs all he needed to complete the 10-1 victory.

In game two, freshman Marcus Johnson from Lexington, Ky. was outstanding. Johnson no-hit OU-C in a five-inning run rule 17-0 victory. The left-hander gave up two walks and struck out seven on his way to the victory.

Jose Adorno, also of Puerto Rico, was the hitting star, going 4-4 with two home runs and seven RBI’s.

Edison State split weekend doubleheaders with Wright State-Lake on Saturday and Ohio State-Lima on Sunday.

On Saturday the Chargers won game one 6-5, scoring the winning run in the bottom of the sixth on a double by Miguel Velasquez of Puerto Rico. Velasquez was 3-for-3 on the day, with a home run and three RBIs.

Edison also got a home run from Sammy Nieves of Puerto Ric, and Will Wells, a Graham High School graduate, got the win with two scoreless innings in relief.

The Chargers dropped game two 6-3. Jorge Datil was tagged with the loss as the starting pitcher.

On Sunday, Edison won game one behind the pitching of Northmont graduate Tanner Lee. Lee went the distance, scattering seven hits, while fanning seven on his way to the victory.

Alex Murphy from Vandalia Butler had two hits for the Chargers to lead a six-hit attack.

In game two Edison blew a seventh-inning lead, giving the Barons three in the bottom of the frame for a walk-off win.

Wells was the tough-luck loser , giving up two unearned runs.

Alex Murphy hit a long three-run home run to pace the Charger offense.

Edison State now stands at 7-3 and returned to action Tuesday at home against Capital University at 3:30.
