Staff report

Each year, the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association gives $1,000 scholarships to sons and daughters of active members of the association.

And this year, one of the recipients is Jackson Center senior Kamryn Elchert, the daugher of Scott and Leisha Elchert. Scott is the longtime head boys basketball coach at the school and a member of the OHSBCA.

Kamryn Elchert was a member of the Jackson Center volleyball team, which won back-to-back Division 4 state championships the past two seasons. And she was also a member of the girls basketball team, which played in the state tournament the last two years.

Each scholarship is named in honor of a coach who has made a significant contribution to Ohio high school basketball. Elchert is the recipient of the Franklin Miller Scholarship.

The OHSBCA is the oldest high school basketball coaches association in the United States and one of the largest, with over 4,000 members. The scholarship program was started in 1975 and 363 student-athletes have been recipients.

The association’s Hall of Fame includes two coaching legends from Shelby County, Jane Poeppelman of Fort Loramie and Bob Anderson of Anna.
