The rain came down in Sidney last evening in one way – from the clouds in great blinding sheets. Rivulets that would disappoint a thirsty ox at once went on a tear. Starrett and Tilbury runs extended their jurisdiction and swept everything near them. On Wilkinson Avenue, a bridge over the former stream was washed out. Gramercy Park and the Bell flats were submerged by the overflowing Miami. The canal got out of its banks near the Slusser and McLean scraper factory, and to save a possible disaster, the weir on the canal below town was opened. The oldest inhabitant who is always an authority, says, as usual, that he never saw so much rainfall in the same amount of time.

The picnic included a parade, ballgame, dinner at the fairgrounds, and a bicycle race for children. Alfred Sayre won first place. There was also a guinea race, with Russell Blake winning; a sack race, won by Henry Snurr, and foot races. The first motorcycle race was called off in the middle due to an accident in which a young man, Eugene Abbott, received treatment at the scene.
