Arson fire damages house

SIDNEY — Arson was determined to be the cause of a fire by the Sidney/Shelby County Fire Investigation Unit at 522 N. Main Ave. on Sunday evening.

At 7:17 p.m., Sidney Firefighters were dispatched on the report of smoke at the vacant, three-story, multi-family residence. A box alarm was called to recall all off-duty Sidney Fire Department personnel. Mutual aid was received from Anna and Lockington Fire Department’s.

Upon arrival, heavy smoke was found on the first floor. Firefighters quickly controlled the fire found on the first floor of the structure. A thorough search of the building was performed and no one was found inside. Firefighters were on the scene for approximately one and a half hours.

There were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters during the firefighting operations.

The home is owned by Larry and Barbara Springer, of Anna. Structural damage was estimated at $8,000.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call the Sidney Department of Fire and Emergency Services at 937-498-2346.
