To no one’s surprise, Lehman senior pitcher Parker Riley has been named the Northwest Central Conference Player of the Year in baseball.
Riley finished the season with a 9-1 record and a 0.84 earned run average. His only loss was in a 10-inning tournament game against Russia in which he went the distance.
The loss was his first and only one in the past two seasons, during which he went 22-1.
In addition to his pitching, he hit .553 for the Cavaliers, with 37 runs scored, 38 driven in and eight doubles. He played at third when he wasn’t pitching.
His coach, Dave King, was named the NWCC Coach of the Year after leading the Cavaliers to a perfect 14-0 record and the conference championship. Overall, the Cavs finished 23-4 and No. 2 in the final state coaches poll for Division 4.
Riley was one of six Lehman players named to the first or second team, with two more named to the honorable mention list.
Joining Riley on the first team are Dylan Arnold and Brandon Barhorst. Arnold, a senior, finished with a .489 batting average, with a team-high 43 hits, 41 runs, 39 RBIs, and 15 doubles, which led the area.
Barhorst, a junior who played outfield and moved to third when Riley was on the mound, hit .474 this season, and scored 54 runs, which led the area. He also had seven doubles and drove in 18 runs.
Named to the second team were Tyler Lachey, Ryan Schmidt and Bryce Kennedy.
Lachey, another junior, was the Cavs’ second-baseman and wound up with a .418 average, with 40 runs scored and 30 driven in.
Schmidt, also a junior, was the designated hitter and hit .364 with 20 runs scored and 21 RBIs.
Kennedy, just a sophomore, was an RBI machine for the Cavs this spring, finishing with 48, which was tops in the area. He hit .402 and also scored 27 times.
Two more Cavs were named to the honorable mention list in senior Jared Rourke and sophomore Jared Magoteaux.
Riverside had two players named to the first team in Hunter Kreglow and Caleb Stevens.
Kreglow hit .440 this season and scored 26 runs, drove in 22 and swiped 11 bases.
Stevens was the area’s top hitter, finishing at .582, with two homers, 29 runs scored and 17 stolen bases.
Named to the second team for tje Pirates were Trey Long, Aaron Kean and Tyler Sanford.
Long hit .333 and also had a 1.65 ERA in 17 innings on the mound, Kean hit .250 and scored 14 runs, and Sanford hit .395 with 32 runs scored, 23 driven in and 15 stolen bases.
Two more Pirates were named to the honorable mention list in Trey Lane and Hayden Robinson.

SOFTBALL
Lehman had three players named to the All-NWCC first team and two more to the honorable mention list.
Sophomore Grace Monnin, Lehman’s talented catcher, was a first-team pick after hitting .414 with eight home runs, second-best in the area. She also scored 25 runs and drove in 27.
Freshman Angela Brunner was also named to the first team after hitting .420 and driving in 17 runs, and senior shortstop Sidney Chapman was a first-team selection thanks to her .391 average, with nine double and 19 runs scored.
Junior pitcher Hailey Wick and freshman Abby Schutt are both on the honorable mention list.
Riverside’s Kristin Davidson was named the Player of the Year after hitting .562, with 59 hits, 46 runs scored and 37 RBIs.
She was one of three players named to the first team from Riverside, being joined by Marissa Davis and Aubrie Stillings.
Davis was the area’s home run leader with 11 and also drove in 54 runs and had 53 hits. Twenty-one of her hits were for extra bases.
Stillings hit .470 for the league champs, scoring 42 runs and driving in 24.
Helena Faulder and Shelby Giles gave the Lady Pirates two on the second team. Faulder hit .412 with 32 RBIs, 28 runs scored and 11 doubles this season, and Giles hit .342, scored 26 times, drove in 32 and had four homers.
Payton Manahan and Courtnie Smith are on the honorable mention list, giving Riverside seven players named in all.
And head coach Andy Phelps, who led Riverside into the regional semifinals Wednesday, is the NWCC Coach of the Year.
