Church receives money for food program

SIDNEY — The Sidney First Presbyterian Church has been awarded $3,500 through the Cargill Cares Council.

The money received will be used to further the Munch Bunch Backpack weekend meal project that the church has offered through the school year to students in Sidney City Schools and Hardin Houston School.

Students who participate in this program are identified by school administrators and teachers, and they receive a bag of food each week during the school year, to be consumed over the weekend. This program is in its eighth year of operation.

Currently, 20 volunteers prepare 219 bags of food each week. Each bag contains 10 non-perishable food items. The program has packed approximately 7,000 bags of food during the 2016-17 school year.

For more information about assisting with the Munch Bunch Backpack program, please call the church office at 937-492-4597 Monday through Thursday between 9 a.m. to noon.

Food items are lined up for packing for the Munch Bunch Backpack program at Sidney First Presbyterian Church.
