Energy program pays $50 for fridges

JACKSON CENTER — Jackson Center Municipal Electric System residential customers can now receive $50 for recycling an outdated refrigerator or freezer through Efficiency Smart.

Eligible customers can schedule a free pick-up of their working refrigerators or freezer sby calling 844-260-3487 or by visiting www.efficiencysmart.org/jackson-center-ohio. After the unit has been properly recycled, customers will receive the $50 reward. In addition to the $50, customers can also save up to $150 per year on their utility bills by recycling an inefficient refrigerator or freezer.

“A refrigerator that is 15 years or older can use twice as much energy as new Energy Star-certified models,” said Corey Bentine, residential program manager for Efficiency Smart. “Efficiency Smart’s appliance recycling program offers a simple and free way for participating residential customers to recycle their outdated refrigerators or freezers and save on electric bills.”
