SIDNEY — Anna M. and Donald G. Long will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, July 15, 2017, at a private party hosted by their children at 4:30 p.m. in the Elks Lodge in Sidney.

Donald and the former Anna Hulsmeyer were married July 15, 1967, in the Botkins Methodist Church in Botkins. The Rev. Lawrence Cordney performed the ceremony on a sunny, pleasant day. During the wedding, the father of the bride stepped on the train of the bride’s dress, tearing the train off. And the ring bearer refused to give the rings to the bridegroom, saying, “Them’s rings are Annie’s.” Witnesses were Judy Hulsmeyer, Jeannie Long, Barbara Miller, Steve Long, Dean Long, David Long, Terry Esser and Dale Hulsmeyer. The couple had met on a blind date.

Donald is the son of the late Curtis Long and Gladys Long and the stepson of the late Ruth Long. He has a living brother and sister-in-law, Dean and Linda Long, of Sidney. Another brother, David Long, is deceased.

Anna is the daughter of the late Opal and Lester Hulsmeyer. She has four brothers and sisters-in-law, Ronald and Jody Hulsmeyer, of Russells Point, Donald and Ann Hulsmeyer, of Botkins, Richard and Cathy Hulsmeyer, of Bucyrus, and Dale and Tonya Hulsmeyer, of Wapakoneta, and living sister, Judy Miller, of Lima, and a brother-in-law, Bob Miller, of Waynesfield. Another sister, Barbara Miller, is deceased.

The Longs are the parents of three daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Mark Weber, of Lawton, Oklahoma, Shelly and Scott Nawman, of Wapakoneta, and Kathi and Mike Hart, of Sidney. They have seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Anna retired in 2012 from Fair Haven Shelby County Home as the assistant activities director. Donald retired from the military in 1987 after 24 years in the U.S. Navy and then retired in 2010 from Norcold Inc.

The couple attend the Salem United Methodist Church in Wapakoneta. They enjoy camping, golf, fishing, crafting and spending time with their great-grandchildren.
