SIDNEY — The final concert of the Sidney Civic Band’s Summer Series, “The People’s Choice,” will be Friday, July 21, at 7 a.m., in the Connection Point Church of God, 1510 Campbell Road.

“This will be a very unique concert for our wonderful audience,” said Phil Chilcote, the director of the band. “The concert will be comprised all of music that the audience requested over the past five weeks. It will include five John Phillip Sousa marches; ‘Beautiful Ohio’; music from Disney and Broadway shows; music from musical groups, Glenn Miller and The Beatles; two solos sung by the band’s tenor vocalist, Gregory Ashe: ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ and ‘God Bless the USA’; the ‘1812 Overture’; and the winner of the most votes for ‘Favorite Selection’ of the band, which will be announced at the concert. Of course, as always, the SCB will end the season with their two closers, ‘God Bless America’ and the National March of the United States of America, John Phillip Sousa’s ‘The Stars and Stripes Forever.’”

In addition to the fan-favorites musical portion of program, the band will also recognize six high school students who have played in the band this summer. Each year, each of the county schools is asked to nominate students to play. This year the students are Lauren Birkmeyer, flute from Fort Loramie high school; Abbey Goins, flute from Fairlawn High School; Joe Ritze, clarinet from Lehman High School; Deanna Lowry, clarinet from Jackson Center High School; Kambria Hamilton, French horn from Fairlawn High School; and Avery Voress, tuba from Sidney High School. The Wolford Scholarship will be awarded to one of the students.

Concessions will be available, starting about 30 minutes prior to the concert.
