Legal troubles mount for trio

SIDNEY — Three people remain incarcerated in the Shelby County Jail on $100,000 bonds, each, following a burglary incident and arrest, Monday.

Robert L. Barga, 41, 615 Sixth Ave., and Ronnie J. Scholl, 37, and Amanda J. Greene, 36, both at large, were each charged with burglary, third-degree felonies, following a break-in along the 8000 block of Lochard Road.

All three are being represented by attorneys of the local public defender’s office.

According to Deputy Mike Martz, the arrests were made following a search of Barga’s home, where Scholl and Greene were residing. Martz told the Daily News that the arrests were based on evidence found at the residence and interviews with the trio.

According to online court records, Martz reported that just prior to deputies’ receiving a call about the burglary, Monday, they were notified that Barga had allegedly visited the Sidney Police Department to report that Scholl and Greene had stolen checks. Barga reportedly claimed that Greene had cashed one of the checks at Fifth-Third Bank in another city.

Martz said Barga claimed that the pair had left a check in Barga’s car.

The records accuse Scholl and Greene of entering the Lochard Road residence and taking a television, laptop computer, leather briefcase, autographed picture of John Wayne, change and prescription drugs.

Detectives obtained a search warrant later in the day. From the garage at Barga’s home, they recovered items taken in the burglary, as well as items from a separate burglary. Scholl and Greene were then arrested.

After interviewing the pair, deputies claimed Barga drove Scholl and Greene to the Lochard Road residence, waited during the break-in and drove the pair and the stolen items back to Sidney. Barga was then arrested for his alleged involvement.

Prosecutor Tim Sell told the Daily News that cases against those charged will be prepared for the Shelby County grand jury’s next session.

The legal troubles continue to mount for the trio as other criminal cases await conclusion.

While Scholl and Greene face additional charges in other theft cases — including a closed case’s being reopened against Greene — Barga remains a defendant in several other cases.

On Aug. 29, Barga will be sentenced in his most recent case involving his counterfeiting activity. After a four-day jury trial ending July 21, Barga was found guilty on one count of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, four counts of forgery and one count of possession of criminal tools, all fifth-degree felonies.

Also on Aug. 29, Barga has two jury trials scheduled regarding two other cases.

In one case, he is charged with one count of complicity to forgery, a fifth-degree felony. He is accused of soliciting others to print counterfeit money.

In another case, he faces a count of tampering with an odometer and two counts of forgery, all fifth-degree felonies. Barga is accused of setting back the odometer of a vehicle in April 2014 and forging paperwork to fraudulently sell the automobile.

Shelby County Sheriff John Lenhart said his deputies acted swiftly regarding the investigation and arrests.
