White Oaks Jamboree celebrates 30th anniversary

FORT LORAMIE — The 30th annual White Oaks Jamboree is set to take place on Aug. 11-12. The annual event was established by a group of 12 couples who bought a piece of land and set out to make a campground for them and their families. Needing a way to fund upkeep and improvements on the property, the jamboree was born.

“About six years ago, the children of the original families decided to take on The White Oak Jamboree to help their parents raise money to maintain the property,” said Kevin Moore, husband of a daughter of one of those original families.

The line-up for the weekend is:

Friday:

7 p.m.: Mark Cantwil

8 p.m.: Kaitlyn Schmit & the Move

Saturday:

4 p.m.: Tommy Renfro

5 p.m.: Empty Tank

7:30 p.m.: Saw Creek

10 p.m.: Mustang Sally

“We are excited to welcome back Saw Creek, Mark Cantwil, and Kaitlyn Schmit. Additionally, Empty Tank and Tommy Renfro have played with us previous years. This will be the first time that we have had Mustang Sally join us and we couldn’t be happier,” said Moore.

The group typically chooses to offer groups who have been popular in the area and are sure to be a hit with the public who comes out to the jamboree.

Mark Cantwil, from Maria Stein, is a singer/songwriter who uses his strong vocals to tell a story. Kaitlyn Schmit & the Move plays mainly country and pop music. Tommy Renfro plays a combination of acoustic country, pop and worship music. Empty Tank is a high energy band that plays rock music from the 60s to the present. Saw Creek covers a variety of high energy and sing-along country favorites. Mustang Sally is a professional country band who has played with many stars and has a style all their own.

With a typical attendance of around 2,000 people, “Those attending this year’s jamboree should expect a weekend filled with live music and fun times in a friendly atmosphere. Attendees are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs, coolers, and even their campers. Food and beverages are also available for purchase,” said Moore.

The jamboree will be held at White Oaks campground at 2988 Loy Road in Fort Loramie. Entrance to the event will be by armband which will also allow attendees to come and go from the campground. The armbands allow entrance on both days and are $15, if purchased by Aug. 10. Armbands are $25 at the gate. Children 12 and under are admitted free.

Primitive camping is available for $30 for the weekend.

“Personally, I am a big fan of live music. Knowing that we provide an enjoyable weekend listening to live local musicians for so many people makes me happy.” Said Moore.
