Senior Day a success at fair

0

Another successful Senior Day at the Fair! The weather cooperated, and we were able to serve 500 free lunches to those in attendance. We honored the oldest man (Norris Cromes, 97) and the oldest woman (Mary Dietz, 101). They were presented with lap robes lovingly made by Joyce Wick, a Senior Center member. Also attending were the longest married couple. Bob and Viola Fogt were married in 1946. They were presented with a Chamber of Commerce gift certificate.

Many agency representatives were on hand to pass out “goodies” and let senior fair-goers know about their agencies and what they do for our county.

Before lunch, the audience was treated to the best choir around. The Senior Center Singers performed, and the concert was well received by all. Topping the performance were solos by Anna Long and Pam Moorman.

Door prizes were handed out. These door prizes were donated by the agencies in attendance.

Lunches were then handed out by senior center volunteers and city workers. A special thanks to Kathy Bray and her crew for a great job. Everything went smoothly.

Jim Bertsch, who is retiring from the Fair board, said his family has been on the board for four generations. Great job, Jim, and best of luck in all you do.

It takes a lot of people to put on Senior Day at the Fair. Thanks to all who helped in any way.

Didn’t get enough fun at the fair? The fun continues at the Senior Center. I believe we have something to offer for all seniors in our area.

Card playing is a big deal (get it?) at the center. We also offer billiards, ping pong, shuffleboard and bingo. All types of exercise are available. They range from chair exercises to Move-n-Groove for the more agile.

If you need entertainment at your next event, please call 492-5266. The choir has a few openings, and I am sure you will be delighted with their performance.

We are always implementing new programs at the center. Pickleball is becoming increasingly popular, and we also now offer Pilates on Wednesday evenings at 5:15.

We also rent out our facility. We can accommodate up to 400 in our Cameo Theater.

Did you know that you may come visit us two times before you join?

We will be having our fall dance, Oct. 20. It is open to the public. Come dance the night away to music by Bill Corfield.

Our big event this year is our 20th anniversary celebration. We will celebrate, Sept. 9, from 1 to 4 p.m. Come see your senior center in action and join in the fun.

We are also planning our fall fundraiser, which will be Oct. 27 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. We will have a cafe, bake sale, crafts and a book sale.
