Anna girls soccer beats Lehman 2-1 to stay undefeated

SIDNEY — Taylor Noll and Taylor Kauffmann scored goals to lift Anna to a 2-1 win over Lehman Catholic on Thursday in a showdown between the top two Western Ohio Soccer League teams. The win clinches the WOSL title for Anna, which is 14-0 overall and 8-0 in league play.

Rylie Edwards had an assist, and goalie Savanna Hostetler had 10 saves for the Rockets. Anna travels to Springfield to play Emmanuel Christian on Saturday and plays at Bethel on Tuesday to wrap-up regular season play.

The Cavaliers fell to 10-4-1 overall and 6-1 in the WOSL. Lehman wraps up regular season play at home on Tuesday against Botkins.

Botkins 1, Lima Central Catholic 1

Paige Lane scored a goal in the first half for Botkins on Thursday off an assist on a corner kick by Claire Peterman. With the tie, Botkins moved to 6-4-3 on the season and 3-2-2 in the WOSL. The Trojans travel to Lehman on Tuesday.

Boys Soccer

Lehman Catholic 1, Lima Temple Christian 1

Lehman Catholic rebounded from Tuesday’s tough loss to Miami East, traveling to Temple Christian in Lima and tying the Pioneers 1-1 on Thursday. Jake Emrick got Lehman’s lone goal off an assist from Michael Denning, while Cameron Worsham scored Temple’s goal.

“Jake and Cameron are two of the best targets in the league and the area,” Lehman coach Tom Wiseman said. “Temple double-teamed Jake all night and we man-marked Cameron. Conor O’Leary and our centerbacks (Chris Goettemoeller and Matthew McDonald) did a great job keeping the ball off his feet. We also had some boys step up and play their best soccer so far this year, such as Mikkel Alvarez and Elijah Jock.”

The Cavaliers now has a season record of 6-5-2 and is 6-0-2 in the WOSL. They play next on Saturday at home against Newton, which is senior day. Lehman has a big game at Botkins next Tuesday. The Cavaliers are in first place in the league, while Botkins is in second.

The loss eliminated Temple from WOSL contention and kept the Cavaliers in first place by a point over Botkins. Jackson Center is still in the running, but will have to gather a win over Spencerville and hope for a tie in next Tuesday’s Lehman at Botkins contest.

Jackson Center 4, New Knoxville 1

Bryce Sosby scored two goals for Jackson Center on Thursday while Gavin Booser and Trevor Sosby scored one goal each. Booser also had an assist.

Joseph Baende scored New Knxoville’s goal. Goalie Ryland Dyrness had seven saves.

The Tigers improved to 7-4-3 overall and 5-0-3 in the WOSL with the win, while the Rangers fell to 5-8 and 4-4. New Knoxville hosts Indian Lake on Saturday, while Jackson Center plays next on Tuesday at home against Spencerville.

Volleyball

Fort Loramie 3, Jackson Center 2

Fort Loramie beat Jackson Center 15-9 in the fifth set to earn a Shelby County Athletic League win on Thursday. The Redskins won the first two sets 25-15 and 25-21, while Jackson Center won the third 25-23 and fourth 25-15.

Loramie coach John Rodgers was pleased with how the team played on senior night.

“Senior nights are always an emotional roller coaster and tonight was not an exception,” Rodgers said. “We just kept working, staying positive and making small adjustments as the night went on. I am very proud of how we stayed together as a team.”

Kenzie Hoelscher had 13 kills for the Redskins, while Marissa Meiring had 10 and Alexis Fleckenstein and Abby Holthaus had eight. Meiring had 36 digs, while Sophia Albers, Chole Stang and Emily Austin each had 20 digs. Albers led the team with 43 assists.

Raquel Kessler had 22 kills, 14 digs, six blocks and three aces for the Tigers. Katie Sosby had 44 digs, while Caroline Frieders had 21 digs, 20 assists and eight kills. Elizabeth Hickey had six kills and four blocks, Connor Pipke had 20 digs and Madilynn Platfoot had 16 assists

Fort Loramie (12-8) stayed tied with Anna (14-7) for first place in the SCAL with the win. Both the Rockets and the Redskins have 9-2 conference records. Russia (14-7) is third in the league at 8-3, while Jackson Center (13-7) is fourth at 7-4.

Jackson Center plays at Versailles on Saturday, while Loramie plays next on Saturday at Middletown Fenwick.

Russia 3, Fairlawn 0

The Raiders beat Fairlawn 25-3, 25-11 and 25-10 on Thursday.

Laurissa Poling had 13 kills and two blocks for Russia while Ashely Scott and Morgan Wenrick had six kills each. Claudia Counts had six kills and two blocks, while Jenna Cordonnier had 17 assists, four digs and two aces. Whitney Pleiman had 21 digs and two aces and Lexi Monnin had six digs and two aces.

Lauren Dudgeon had three kills and three digs for Fairlawn. MaCalla Huelskamp had one kill and five digs, Kenedee Gallimore had seven digs and Lauren Weinschenk had 11 digs.

Russia’s next game is Tuesday at home against Fort Loramie, while Fairlawn (4-15, 1-10) plays next on Tuesday at Anna.

Anna 3, Botkins 0

Anna beat the Trojans 25-10, 25-15 and 25-17 on Thursday.

Emma Meyer led the Rockets with 17 kills, while Macy Wiktorowski had 14 kills and Ashely Landis had seven kills. Lexi Wells had 38 assists and had 10 digs, while Rachel Shoemaker had nine digs and Lindsey Barhorst had eight digs. Meyer had two blocks assists.

Danielle Schwartz had seven kills, Bella Ewry had nine assists and Paige Dosek had 10 digs.

Anna hosts Fairlawn next Tuesday, while Botkins plays next on Thursday at Covington.

New Bremen 3, Parkway 0

The Cardinals beat Parkway 25-13, 25-18 and 25-8 on Thursday.

Paige Jones had 21 kills, while Claire Pape and Ellie Roetgerman had six kills each. Madison Pape had 18 assists and Abbi Thieman had 16 assists. Rachel Kremer led New Bremen with eight digs.

New Bremen (15-1, 6-1 MAC) plays next on Tuesday at Delphos St. John’s.

New Knoxville 3, Minster 1

The Rangers won the last two sets 25-20 and 25-16 to claim Thursday’s match. New Knoxville won the first set 25-21 and Minster won the second 25-20.

Tayler Doty had 21 kills for New Knoxville, while Tasia Lauth had 13 kills and two solo blocks. Carly Fledderjohan had 46 assists, and Faith Homan had 21 digs.

Paige Thobe had 10 kills for New Knoxville while Taylor Hoying had seven. Danielle Barhorst and Emily Stubbs each had 19 digs, while Brooke Wolf had 28 assists.
