Grand jury indicts on drug charges

SIDNEY — Cars and drugs played a part in two separate indictments made by the grand jury in Shelby County’s Common Pleas Court on Thursday.

Justin Wigginton, of Sidney, a passenger in a car driven by Robert Case, 46, of Lakeview, had alledgedly been preparing lines of fentanyl for the two of them to use while the car was traveling north on Interstate 75. An Ohio State Highway Patrolmen pulled them over near mile marker 94 for having a shattered windshield that was obstructing the driver’s view. In the police report, Trooper Jordan Monnin reported that the front passenger appeared to be reaching to the ground while the car was pulled over.

Wigginton was by then alledgedly sweeping the fentanyl onto the floor of the car. Wigginton allegedly insisted the fentanyl was not his.

Case was indicted on possession of fentanyl, possession of criminal tools and driving with a suspended license. The license had been suspended as a result of a misdemeanor conviction in 2014 for driving while under the influence of alcohol. The 2014 conviction was the second such conviction within 20 years. Both men were taken to the Shelby County Jail.

The second case involved Lucas Schutte, 36, of Dayton, who was also indicted on drug- and traffic-related charges. Schutte was driving south on the 1000 block of North Main Avenue in Sidney when Sidney Police Officer John Curtis stopped him for improper license plates. The officer discovered that Schutte had a warrant out for him in another county and that Schutte was under a driving suspension.

When the plates were run through the officer’s system, they came up not for the blue GMC Envoy, which Schutte was driving, but for a 1978 Ford. Another Sidney Police officer said the Envoy was suspected of transporting meth, and after a canine search, a black bag of meth and a meth pipe were found inside the car.

Schutte was taken to the Shelby County Jail and was indicted for aggravated possession of drugs, possessing criminal tools and operating a motor vehicle bearing invalid license plates.
