Tuesday volleyball roundup: Anna beats Fairlawn, claims SCAL title outright

ANNA — Anna beat Fairlawn 25-11, 25-8 and 25-11 on Tuesday. With the win and Fort Loramie’s 3-1 loss to Russia, Anna claims the Shelby County Athletic League title outright with a 10-2 record.

Emma Meyer led the Rockets with 14 kills and six block assists, while Macy Wiktorowski had 11 and Madison Roe and Ashley Landis had seven kills each. Lexi Wells had 41 assists and four block assists, Carly Becker had 16 digs and Rachel Shoemaker had 10 digs.

Lauren Dudgeon had four kills, one ace and four digs for the Jets. Lauren Weinschenk had 14 digs and Kenedee Gallimore had 10 digs.

The match was Anna’s last in regular season. The Rockets (15-7 overall) begin tournament play next Tuesday at Brookville. Fairlawn (4-16, 1-11 SCAL) plays at Tri-Village on Saturday to close out the regular season.

Russia 3, Fort Loramie 1

Russia beat Fort Loramie for the first time since 2014 on Tuesday in an SCAL match. The Raiders won the last two sets against Loramie 25-23 and 25-15. Russia won the first set 25-18 and the Redskins won the second 25-17.

With the win, Russia ties Fort Loramie for second place in the league. Both teams have 9-4 records.

Laurissa Poling led Fairlawn with 20 kills and eight blocks. Ashley Scott had nine kills, Morgan Wenrick had seven kills and Cameo Wilson had six kills. Jenna Cordonnier had a team-high 40 assists and Whitney Pleiman had a team-high 36 digs. Cordonnier also had 17 digs and three blocks. Faith Apple had eight digs and Lexi Monnin had six.

It was the last match in regular season for Russia (15-7) and Fort Loramie (12-10). The Raiders open tournament play next Tuesday against Xenia Legacy Christian at Troy, while Loramie starts postseason play on Tuesday against Dayton Christian at Arcanum.

Jackson Center 3, Houston 0

The Tigers beat Houston 25-16, 25-10 and 25-16 on Tuesday.

Raquel Kessler led the Tigers with 17 kills and had four blocks and eight digs. Caroline Frieders had 14 kills, 17 assists and nine digs, Katie Sosby had 16 digs, Connor Pipke had five kills and Madilynn Platfoot had 19 assists and 19 digs.

Sarah Monnier had seven kills and eight digs for the Wildcats, while Alyssa Kemp had 10 assists. Hayden Riesenbeck had 12 digs and Amber Stangel had seven digs.

Jackson Center (14-8, 8-4) finishes fourth in the SCAL behind Anna, Russia and Fort Loramie. The Tigers earned the top seed in the Dayton Div. IV sectional and will start their quest for a third consecutive state championship next Wednesday at Troy in a first-round game against Mechanicsburg.

Houston (5-17, 2-10) opens tournament play against Botkins on Tuesday at Arcanum.

Vandalia-Butler 3, Sidney 0

Sidney lost 25-21, 25-13 and 25-21 on Tuesday. The loss drops the Yellow Jackets to 8-6 in GWOC American North Division play and 12-8 overall.

Alina Kindle, Emily Tolbert, and Arielle Snider each scored 10 kills for the Jackets’ front line.

Payton Boshears drilled three aces to set a school record for aces in a single season with 65. Tolbert and Carrie Nuss each added one ace. Nuss led the defense with 11 digs and Tolbert picked up seven. Nuss directed the offense with 26 assists on 88-of-89 sets.

Sidney wraps up regular-season play on Thursday at Greenville.

New Bremen 3, Delphos St. John’s 0

New Bremen beat the Blue Jays 25-15, 25-20 and 25-21 to win Tuesday’s Midwest Athletic Conference match.

Paige Jones had 24 kills and seven aces for New Bremen, while Julia Goettemoeller had seven kills. Rachel Kremer had five kills, while Abbi Thieman had 19 assists and Taylor Paul had five aces.

The Cardinals (16-1, 7-1 MAC) conclude regular-season play on Thursday at St. Henry.

Marion Local 3, New Knoxville 1

The Rangers won the first set 25-21 but Marion Local won the next three 25-11, 25-19 and 25-15 on Tuesday.

Erin Scott led New Knoxville with 11 kills, while Faith Homan had 25 digs and Erin Scott had 15 digs. Carly Fledderjohann led the team with 25 assists.

New Knoxville (10-8, 3-5) finishes regular-season play on Thursday at Fort Recovery.

Fort Recovery 3, Minster 0

Fort Recovery beat the Wildcats 25-16, 25-19 and 25-14 on Tuesday.

Paige Thobe had five kills for Minster. Emily Stubbs had 18 digs and Danielle Barhorst had 15 digs.

Minster (6-9, 1-7) concludes regular-season play on Thursday at Parkway.
