The fight for the Piqua vs. Sidney all-sports trophy will resume on Friday with a doubleheader at Piqua’s Garby Gymnasium.

Sidney and Piqua’s girls and boys basketball teams will face off in back-to-back games. The girls teams will play at 6 p.m. with the boys teams following at 7:30.

Sidney’s girls team will be looking for its first win on Friday. Alina Kindle is leading Sidney with an average of 9.8 points per game. Piqua’s girls are 2-3.

Sidney’s boys have won the last three matchups against Piqua. Sidney guard Andre Gordon averaged 29.3 points, 4.7 assists and 4.7 rebounds in the first three games of the season.

Piqua earned its first win of the season on Saturday at Milton-Union. Both the Yellow Jackets and Indians are 1-2 entering GWOC American North games on Tuesday night.

The two schools are competing for an all-sports trophy for the first time this season, and the winner will be determined by a points system.

In sports where the schools play each other twice, half a point is awarded for each game, while one point is awarded for sports where the schools play each other once. Sidney leads Piqua 6-4 entering Friday’s basketball games.

The girls junior varsity teams will play at 4:30 on Friday. The boys freshman and junior varsity teams will play in Piqua at noon and 1:30, respectively, on Saturday.

The fight for the Piqua vs. Sidney all-sports trophy continues Friday.
