Sidney dominates Piqua in wrestling, increases all-sports lead

Sidney’s wrestling team dominated Piqua in a dual on Wednesday night to earn another point for the Yellow Jackets in the all-sports trophy race.

Sidney beat the Indians 66-8, in part thanks to 42 points in forfeits. The win gives Sidney a 7.5-4.5 lead in the all-sports race.

The Yellow Jackets record pins at 160, 182 and 220 and won 120 9-1 and 170 5-1. Piqua got wins at 132 and 138. The Indians forfeited matches at 106, 113, 145, 152, 195 and 285.

Sidney played a tri-match at Indian Lake on Tuesday. The Yellow Jackets beat Wapakoneta 39-37 and lost to Indian Lake 42-22.

“There’s been improvement made with the young team,” Sidney coach Clayton Westerbeck said. “I’m very proud of the effort.”
