NEW KNOXVILLE — Anna used a big first quarter to pull away to a 37-30 win over New Knoxville in a nonconference game on Thursday.
The Rockets jumped out in front 16-4 after the first quarter and led 27-15 at halftime. The Rangers narrowed the final score thanks to a 10-7 scoring advantage in the third and a 5-3 advantage in the fourth.
Macey Huelskamp scored all of her 10 points in the first quarter to help the Rockets take the early lead. Ella Doseck also added 10 points for Anna, while Jada Rowland scored five. The Rockets made 15 field goals and 5-of-12 free-throw attempts.
Erin Scott led New Knoxville with eight points. The Rangers made 13 field goals and 4-of-5 free-throw attempts.
Anna (5-3, 2-2 Shelby County Athletic League) plays next on Thursday at home against Versailles. New Knoxville (3-6, 0-2 Midwest Athletic Conference) returns to action next Thursday at home against Fort Loramie.
Fort Loramie 60, Houston 34
Fort Loramie overcame a slow start to earn a Shelby County Athletic League win on Thursday.
Houston started off the game hitting 5 for 9 from the floor to take a 12-11 lead. Loramie clawed their way back, scoring 16 in the second quarter to go ahead 27-21.
In the third quarter, the Redskins harassed the Wildcats and outscored them 15-4. Loramie put the game away with an 18-9 advantage in the fourth.
Loramie had balanced scoring with Kenzie Hoelscher and Taylor Ratermann each scoring 10. Kennedi Gephart, Abby Holthaus and Marissa Meiring all had nine points. Jadyn Puthoff and Meiring each had six rebounds, while Hoelscher had four assists.
Loramie is 5-3 overall and 4-0 in the SCAL. The Redskins, which are tied for first with Russia in the league, travel to Versailles on Saturday.
Houston (1-8, 1-4) plays again next Thursday at Lehman Catholic.
New Bremen 55, Upper Scioto Valley 32
New Bremen put a Thursday nonconference game against Upper Scioto Valley away in the second quarter.
The Cardinals led 14-9 at the end of the first quarter and used an 18-7 advantage in the second to increase the lead to 32-16 at halftime. New Bremen led 49-25 at the end of the third.
Paige Jones and Jane Homan led the Cardinals with 10 points each, while Kelly Naylor scored nine points. New Bremen made 24 field goals and 3-of-8 free-throw attempts.
Upper Scioto Valley’s Kaycee Carroll scored a game-high 14 points, while Haley Hunsicker added 12.
New Bremen (8-1, 1-1 MAC) plays again next Thursday at home against Jackson Center.
Lehman Catholic 44, Waynesfield-Goshen 32
Waynesfield-Goshen led 12-10 at the end of the first, but Lehman shut the Tigers out in the second to jump-start a Northwest Central Conference win on Thursday.
Lehman outscored Waynesfield-Goshen 8-0 in the second quarter to take a 18-12 halftime lead. The Tigers narrowed the lead to four points at 28-24 at the end of the third, but Lehman closed out the game with a 16-8 scoring advantage in the fourth.
Grace Monnin led Lehman with 16 points, while Alanna O’Leary scored 12 points. Both Monnin and O’Leary had five steals. Carly Edwards added seven points and 13 rebounds.
The Cavaliers shot 23 for 61 (37.7 percent) from the field and had 31 rebounds.
St. Marys 57, Sidney 37
St. Marys jumped out to a 13-8 lead after the first quarter and put the game away with a 21-9 scoring advantage in the second quarter.
Carly Dean led the Yellow Jackets with 11 points while Carrie Nuss added seven. Emma Wilford led the team with 11 rebounds. Sidney shot 15 for 41 (36 percent) from the field and made 5-of-11 free-throw attempts. The Yellow Jackets had 29 rebounds.
Lauren Cisco led St. Marys with 14 points. The Roughriders made 21 field goals and 9-of-13 free throws.
Sidney (0-8, 0-4 Greater Western Ohio Conference American North) plays again next Thursday at Tecumseh.
