Augalize County Fair king, queen to be crowned Monday

WAPAKONETA — The Auglaize County Fair king and queen will be crowned Monday, July 30, at 6:30 p.m. during a ceremony at the grandstand.

Finalists for the queen competition are:

• Danielle Bertke, 18, daughter of Roger and Teresa Bertke, St. Marys. He is a 2018 graduate of St. Marys High School and will be attending the University of Findlay in the fall. She is a 13-year member of the Buckeye Beavers 4-H Club. She is the secretary for Tri Star Skills USA, secretary for the senior class, played four years of volleyball and lettered twice, is a Big Sister with Big Brothers, Big Sisters, was secretary of the junior class, participated in track and field, is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

• Joanna Frankenberg, 18, daughter of Steve and Kathy Frankeberg, of New Bremen. She is a graduate of New Knoxville High School and plans to attend Ohio State University. She has been a 4-H club member for 10 years. At New Knoxville High School, she was a member of the National Honor Society, class president her junior and senior years and class vice president her sophomore year. She was member of the German Club, Pep Club, volleyball team, was a cheerleader, and Big Brothers Big Sisters volunteer. She is a member of Holy Rosary Church, where she was involved a Parish Council representative, helped with Bible school, and participated in the Youth Group, group mission trips and Right to Life Marches. She was a 2016 representative for HOBY and a member of the 2017 Buckeye Girls State.

• Rebecca Lemkuhl, 18, Minster, daughter of Bill Lemkuhl and Karen Hoban. She is a 2018 graduate of Minster High School and will be attending the University of Cincinnati this fall. She is a 14-year member of Buckeye Beavers 4-H Club. She is a member of the National Honor Society, a volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters, Youth Leadership Association and Skills USA. She participated int he local, county, district and state level for the American Legion Oratorical speaking contest. She was a delegate for Buckeye Girls State. She is a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, where she distributes communion, serves Masses and helps with the pro-life pumpkin lighting. She was a member of the symphonic, concert, pep and marching bands at MHS. She received superior and excellent ratings at the Solo and Ensemble Contest. She is a lifeguard and swim instructor at the Auglaize/Mercer YMCA and Minster Pool. She was a member of the Minster cross country team and received a varsity letter her freshman and sophomore years. She was a classroom aide, sophomore class treasurer and HOBY participant.

• Mallory Rager, 18, daughter of Mandy Rager, St. Marys. She is a graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School and plans to attend Bowling Green State University this fall. She is a 12-year member of the Nobel Harvesters 4-H Club. She is a three-year member of the Sportsmanship Committee and played varsity softball. She is a member of FFA and served as sentinel for two years and student adviser for two years. She is a member of DECA and was a state qualifier and New York City qualifier for community service. She helps with Goodfellows, Miracle Minute basketball games and Festival of Trees.

• Laura Wilker, 18, daughter of Gene and Cindy Wilker, St. Marys. She is a 2018 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School. She has been a member of 4-H for 13 years. She served as president and secretary of the student council, was vice president, blood drive coordinator and operation pail mail with the FFA, present of the National Honor Society and a member of Goodfellows. She is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and field commander with the St. Marys All Brass Band. She was a member of the cross country and track teams, where she was distance captain, a state qualifier and second team all league. She is a member of Holy Rosary Church and its Youth Group. She helps organize Relay for Life fundraisers and events.

Finalists for the king competition are:

• Austin Albers, 18, son of Dennis and Amy Albers, Wapakoneta. He is a 2018 graduate of New Knoxville High School and will be attending Wright State University-Lake Campus, Celina, in the fall. He is a 10-year member of the New Knoxville Livestock Boosters. While in high school, he was a student council representative, vice president of the Pep Club and a four-year member of the soccer team, where he was co-captain his senior year. He played baseball and basketball for two years. He is a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he was an usher for two years and altar server for seven years. He was a vacation Bible school helper for five years at the United Church of Christ, New Knoxville.

• Evan Aufderhaar, 18, son of Brad and Joy Aufderhaar, Botkins, will be a senior at Botkins High School this fall. He plans to attend Owens in the fall 2019 where he will major in John Deere Technology. He is a 12-year member of the Auglaize County Show Stoppers 4-H Club. He is a member of the Botkins FFA, where he has served as vice president and treasurer. He received the Greenhand, Chapter and State Degrees, Star Greenhand, Don Topp Memorial Award, Chapter Award and was a Top 3 fruit salesman. He finished sixth in individual and fifth in the team general livestock judging in the state and is a national qualifier for the program. He is a member of the Tractor Trouble Shooting Team. He is a member of the band, pep band and received a superior rating at solo and ensemble competition. He is a member of the ICC Youth Group and helps with Trick or Can, the Rhine Turkey Shoot set-up and First Communion Retreat set-up and helper. He is a Conservation Day Camp volunteer.

• D.J. O’Neill, 18, son of Rick and Cathy O’Neill, Wapakoneta. He is a graduate of Wapakoneta High School and will be attending Ohio University this fall. He is a 13-year member of the Star Spangled Clovers 4-H Club. In 4-H, he was a camp counselor, a member of the Junior Fair Board and is currently the president of the group. He was a student adviser for FFA and played soccer at WHS. He is a member of his church’s youth group.

• Evan Vogel, 18, son of Don and Mindy Vogel, St. Marys. He is a 2018 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School. He is a 10-year member of the Noble Harvesters 4-H Club. He is a member of Tri-Star Career Compact’s welding technology, served two years as the Skills USA Chapter vice president and was the manager for the Cancer Angels project. He was the team captain for the varsity baseball and soccer teams. He was the club president of the Fishing Club and was a member of the St. Marys Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

• Noah Vogel, 17, son of Jeff and Ann Vogel, St. Marys. He will be a senior this fall at St. Marys Memorial High School. He is a nine-year member of the Nobel Harvesters 4-H Club and was also spent three years in the Cloverbuds program. He is a member of the SMHS wrestling team where he holds the record for most pins on the team with 24, was the most valuable wrestler and was named to the Western Buckeye League second team. He is also a member of the soccer team. He is a member of st. Patrick’s Church, Goodfellows and served and helped at the recycling center. He is a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
