ST. MARYS — Father James O. Byrne Knights of Columbus Council 1592 in St. Marys will celebrate Respect Life Sunday by hosting an open house featuring the new mobile ultrasound purchased for the Family Life Center of Auglaize County. The open house and demonstration will be held Sunday, Oct. 7, from noon until 1:30 p.m. in the K of C Hall, located at 427 E. Spring St. in St. Marys next to Holy Rosary Church.
Executive Director Candice Dicke of the FLC will be on hand to demonstrate the unit purchased thanks to fundraising efforts by local and area Knights. Thanks to the Knights of Columbus, the organization was able to purchase a new mobile ultrasound unit. Funds for the purchase came from local councils participating in the K of C Ultrasound initiative and included a check for more than $12,000 from the Supreme Council, the organization’s international office.
Local Knights through a variety of fundraising efforts and donations generated more than $20,000 to bring the overall total to almost $33,000. Members from the Father James O. Byrne Council 1592 in St. Marys spearheaded the county-wide effort which drew considerable support from the area. St. Marys, Wapakoneta, Minster, McCartyville and Fort Recovery K of C councils contributed to cause as well as many local individuals.
These efforts also brought about praise from Supreme Knight Carl Anderson, leader of the 1.9 million members of the Knights.
“Ultrasound technology opens a window into womb and dramatically shows the humanity of the unborn, even to the doubting eyes of those who may not have previously shared our regard for the sanctity of human life, “said Anderson. “We are pleased to partner with Fr. James O. Byrne Council 1592 and other area councils in purchasing this powerful tool which we hope and pray will save many lives through the good work of the Family Life Center of Auglaize County.”
The open house will include a blessing of the new mobile ultrasound machine by Father Barry Stechschulte, pastor of Holy Rosary Church in St. Marys. The public is invited to attend the event. Light refreshments will be available during the event.
