RUSSIA — One person was killed in a single-vehicle crash Monday, Oct. 8.
According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, the Russia Fire Department, Houston EMS, and Shelby County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Russia-Houston Road, east of Russia Road, in Loramie Township, after the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office received a call at 10:37 p.m., on Oct. 8, from BMW auto assistance services reporting a possible vehicle crash at the location.
The first deputy on the scene found a vehicle in the field completely engulfed in fire and a male lying nearby on the ground. Russia firefighters extinguished the fire, and upon checking the vehicle, discovered a deceased passenger.
The driver of the vehicle, 49-year-old Timothy Worthington, of Russia, was taken to Miami Valley Hospital by Careflight.
Preliminary investigation by deputies indicates Worthington was operating a 2015 BMW car eastbound on Russia-Houston Road when the vehicle dropped off the right side of the road and began a broadside slide, running off the left side of the road, and striking a wooden utility pole.
Following the collision with the pole, the vehicle overturned at least one time before coming to a stop.
The deceased passenger from the vehicle was taken to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office to determine positive identification and cause of death.
The crash remains under investigation by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.
