‘Duck Dynasty’ family shares testimony

SIDNEY — All relationships have difficulty and Al and Lisa Robertson know this firsthand. They shared their story on Saturday in the hopes that it would help others. The “Duck Dynasty” couple spoke at Connection Point Church.

“I think God gives you victory, so you can talk about it and help others,” said Lisa.

But first Al Robertson told the story of his parents, Phil and Kay. Their relationship had difficulty, and Phil left the family for a while.

“Dad came home and told Mom that he wanted his family back. She told him things would have to change first,” said Al.

Phil had been heavily into drugs and alcohol.

Al and Lisa’s relationship had similar issues, plus the added stress of a previous abortion and sexual abuse. It was these things that ultimately led Lisa into an inappropriate relationship.

“I think everybody goes through a certain amount of what we talked about tonight, and a lot of those people feel hopeless. We found that forgiveness and that love and that grace from God, and we want to tell other people where they can find it, too, and have that same healing we had,” said Lisa.

It was difficult, at first, for Al and Lisa to share their story. Eventually, they saw that their story offered more hope than shame.

“We view the world through a ministry lens. Our whole lives now have become an opportunity to do that. Sometimes, when you don’t see it through a ministry lens, it’s hard to see the value. It took a few years of healing before we were in the place where we could talk about it,” said Al.

To this end, the couple tours the nation talking about their history and the forgiveness and healing they have found. They have written books in addition to their presentation.

“We want to help people who feel hopeless in their relationship, not just couples, but a mother and daughter or a father and son. There’re all different ways that relationships get out of whack. The website is one of those tools. We’ve got a new book that’s about to come out called Desperate Forgiveness. That’ll be out next May or June. That’s about any situation or relationship where forgiveness will help to bring people back together,” said Al.

Al and Lisa’s website is alandlisarobertson.com.
