SIDNEY — Sidney’s Deputy Fire Chief Cameron Haller is leaving the city of Sidney’s Department of Fire and Emergency Services to become the new Tipp City Fire Chief.
Haller officially notified the city of Sidney Monday that he accepted the position. He will begin working in Tipp City in March 2019.
Haller served as deputy chief in the Sidney department for three years. He has been employed by the city of Sidney since 1995. He is a native of Van Wert, but has lived in Sidney with his family for the last 23 years.
“Sidney Fire Department is a strong vibrant organization. My career and professional life have been molded in one of the state’s best emergency services departments. The experiences lived and learned will be with me always. I am grateful to have served Sidney and Shelby County,” Haller said in a memorandum sent to the Sidney’s fire chief, city manager and City Council members.
“Sidney has been a part of our family home for over 23 years. My immediate family was raised in the Sidney community; therefore the city will forever be a part of our life story. Teresa, the kids, and I are grateful for all the people that have influenced our lives in Sidney and Shelby County. Sidney and Shelby County is a great place to raise a family,” Haller’s memo said. “Tipp City is a vibrant city as well. I am excited to be extended the opportunity, responsibility, and trust from the Tipp City administration, elected officials, and citizens to function in this vital role that will affect public safety. We will be relocating to Tipp City in the near future.”
Haller was introduced to the Tipp City Fire Department last week and the Tipp City City Council Monday evening.
Haller said, Monday night, he is excited to “help fulfill the city’s vision of being nationally recognized and one of the best small towns in America.”
“I’m excited to serve, I’m excited to build a team,” he said.
After the death of Tipp City Fire Chief Steve Kessler in June, the Tipp City City Council voted to advertise for a fire and emergency medical services chief.
At a meeting earlier this month, the Tipp City City Council approved an ordinance adding the new position to the city’s pay schedule and set the maximum bi-weekly salary for the new fire chief at $3,989.74.
