WEST CARROLLTON — Sidney had its closest game of the season on Monday but lost to West Carrollton 38-30 in a road Greater Western Ohio Conference crossover game.
The Yellow Jackets (0-9) had lost their previous eight games by double digits but stayed closer to the Pirates (4-4).
West Carrollton built an 11-10 lead by the end of the first quarter and led 26-21 at halftime. The Pirates used a 7-5 scoring advantage in the third to extend the lead to seven and then finished with a 5-4 scoring advantage in the fourth.
Samantha Reynolds and Hallie Truesdale each led Sidney with 11 points. Reynolds had three blocks and six rebounds while Truesdale brought down seven rebounds. Cassidy Truesdale scored six points and led the squad with eight rebounds.
Indian Lake 34, Jackson Center 31 OT
Jackson Center led 22-19 at halftime and by four points heading into the fourth quarter, but the Lakers used an 8-4 scoring advantage in the fourth to force overtime and then outscored the Tigers 5-2 in the extra period.
No scoring or other information was reported.
Cedarville 42, Riverside 22
Riverside fell behind 21-9 by halftime in a road nonconference loss to Cedarville on Monday. The Pirates had 14 turnovers in the first half.
“I’m disappointed in how played,” Riverside coach Bryce Hodge said. “We struggled in all areas tonight, offense, defense, boxing out, shooting, passing, etc. Credit goes to Cedarville for making us uncomfortable all night. We need to clean a lot of things up before Thursday’s league game with Lehman.”
Kalin Kreglow and Courtnie Smith each scored five points for the Pirates. Riverside was without leading scorer Dana Jones, who was sick.
BOWLING
Sidney splits match against Stebbins
Sidney’s bowling squads split a road match against Stebbins on Monday.
The boys team defeated Stebbins 2,310-1,903 to move to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in GWOC American League play. Kaden Abbott had a 480 series and Logan Finke had a 434 series.
“That was Kaden’s career high series,” Sidney coach Trent Knoop said. “Finke and Abbott really carried the team tonight. Both of them rolled the ball very well. Kaden has been a nice spark to the team this year.”
The girls squad lost 1,476-904 to fall to 1-5 and 1-3. Callie Fleming had a 267 series and Chloe King had a 247 series.
“We were shorthanded tonight with girls, due to other school events,” Knoop said. “We brought girls from the JV team, and we thought they handled themselves well in a varsity environment.”
