Hayner Center calls for photo entries

TROY — The Troy-Hayner Cultural Center’s photography competition, “Through Our Eyes 2019,” is seeking entries.

Photographers of all ages, including children, are encouraged to submit photographs.

Any person is eligible to submit photographs. All work must be original and current, and must have been photographed after March 1, 2016. Photographs previously exhibited at the Troy-Hayner Cultural Center should not be submitted.

Submitted work must have been photographed in the following counties: Miami, Shelby, Darke, Champaign, Clark or Montgomery.

There are five divisions:

• Ruralscape.

• Urbanscape.

• Youth (students in grades K-12, including home educated.

• Abstraction. Abstraction, for the purposes of this show, is defined as an image in which the elements of design (light, shadow, shape, form, texture, pattern, color, space, line, etc.) are the main emphasis and does not represent the subject in a literal way.

• Life in the Miami Valley (people-oriented). This category will be judged by Diana Thompson of the Miami County Visitors Bureau. Winners in this category agree to permit the Visitors Bureau to use copies of their images for publicity purposes to promote the region in print and electronic media for two years after the close of the exhibit.

“Through Our Eyes 2019” will be open to the public from May 3 through June 23. Only works selected by the jurors will be exhibited. The opening reception for the exhibition and awards presentation will be May 5.

This year’s jurors are Timothy Wells, an artist and educator whose work includes photography and installation art, and Thompson, who is the executive director of the Miami County Visitors & Convention Bureau.

Photographs with entry fees of $30 per entrant will be accepted April 26 and 27. Each photographer may enter three photos for one fee. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top entries in each category.
