SIDNEY – A 22-year-old Sidney woman continues to extend her stay with the state prison system on drug-related charges and a failed escape attempt from a local hospital.
A Lima man received more than two years in prison in one of several cases heard recently in Shelby County Common Pleas Court.
On April 1, Amanda Kay Murphy, incarcerated, was sentenced to 30 months with the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation (ODRC) Marysville Reformatory for Women on a charge of escape, a third-degree felony. She fled from a sheriff’s deputy while in custody during a medical visit to Wilson Health on Dec. 28.
The same day, Murphy was handed an 11-month sentence on a charge of possessing criminal tools, a fifth-degree felony, in a separate case. The charge stems from her being arrested on Nov. 30 in possession of Methamphetamine.
Judge James Stevenson ordered the sentences be served concurrently, or at the same time.
On March 8, Murphy was sentenced to 18 months with ODRC when her community control sanctions were terminated on a conviction for carrying a concealed weapon, a fourth-degree felony, when she failed to report to probation officers in October
Stevenson also imposed 120-day sentences on convictions for endangering children and aggravated menacing, both first-degree misdemeanors. They will also be served concurrent with the 18-month sentence.
Kevin M. Joyce, 39, was one of two Lima men were arrested on Dec. 31 in possession of Methamphetamine. He was found guilty of possession of drugs, a third-degree felony; and for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs (OVI), a first-degree misdemeanor.
He was sentenced to 30 months in prison on the drug charge along with mandatory three days in jail and $375 fine for the OVI charge. They will be served concurrently. Stevenson also suspended his driver’s license for a year upon his release and ordered $35 in restitution paid to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Denise Bradley, 42, 5092 Dawson Road, Houston, was sentenced to 11 months at the ODRC Marysville reformatory on a charge of aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony.
On Dec. 28, Bradley was arrested along with Christopher Wade, 41, following a drug raid at 607 N. Main Ave. According to authorities, due to the arrest history of the known occupants, the warrant execution was deemed an “elevated risk,” resulting in entry gained by tactical officers from the Sidney and Piqua Police departments.
On April 1, Wade pleaded guilty to a negotiated charge of aggravated possession of drugs, fifth-degree felony, during his final pretrial. When sentenced he face a maximum of 12 months in prison and a $2,500 fine. However, prosecutors have agreed to recommend a six-month sentence.
Both were found in possession of Methamphetamine.
Hewitt on extended stay
Donald Hewitt Jr., 41, London Correctional Institution, was sentenced to six additional months with the ODRC on one count of possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony. Hewitt was found guilty in a one-day jury trial.
Stevenson ordered the sentence be served consecutively (one after the other) with separate prison terms imposed in Shelby and Montgomery counties.
Justin Wigginton, 32, 314 N. Ohio Ave., was ordered to six months with the ODRC on a charge of possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony. The sentence will be served consecutively with three other imprisonment orders from Shelby County courts.
Wigginton pleaded guilty to the amended charge during a status conference. He was arrested on Dec. 9 in possession of heroin.
Dale E. Aselage, 53, 178 S. Frankfort St., Minster, pleaded guilty to two counts of assault, both first-degree misdemeanors, during a recent hearing involving a Bill of Information. When sentenced on May 20, he faces a maximum of a year in prison and a $2,000 fine.
Aselage was originally charged with sexual battery, a third-degree felony. He was accused of engaging in sexual activity for two years with a mentally impaired person.
In other cases:
• Landon S. Murray, 24, 1703 Letitia Drive, possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, was ordered to participate in a treatment program at Nova Behavioral Health in Dayton when his probation was revoked. He must also complete the Vivitrol program.
According to online court records, Murray tested positive for Fentanyl violating his community control. He had been arrested June 30, 2017, in possession of heroin.
• Loren Alexandra Huckabone, 28, 1026 Wiles Road, was sentenced to five years of community control on a charge of petty theft, a first-degree misdemeanor. She was also ordered to receive drug and alcohol counseling, fined $200 and assessed court costs.
She knowingly received a stolen debit card on Nov. 10.
• Robbie J. Carr, 20, Piqua, one count of burglary, a third-degree felony, was placed on a $7,500 bond following his bond revocation. Court records show he tested positive for alcohol and drugs recently.
Carr broke into a home at 411 S. Main Ave. on Dec. 19, 2017.
• Montana Cowger, 20, Webster Springs, West Virginia, failed to appear for her sentencing on a charge of aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony. Her bond was forfeited and a warrant issued for her arrest.
• Fred McCluskey, 50, 132 Pike St., was sentenced to 30 days in the county jail on the work release program on a charge of petty theft, a first-degree misdemeanor. The jail term would be suspended if all court costs were paid within 30 days.
McCluskey was charged with passing a counterfeit $100 bill at Lee’s Chicken in Sidney on Nov. 10.
• Ana S. Lawson, 40, Piqua, pleaded guilty to attempted possession of drugs and driving while under suspension, both first-degree misdemeanors, during her final pretrial. When sentenced she faces a maximum of 12 months in prison and a $2,000 fine.
Lawson was arrested on May 26 in possession of Methamphetamine.
• Candace K. Roberts, 815 Mount Vernon Place, Apt. B, entered a guilty plea to trafficking in drugs, a fifth-degree felony. When sentenced she faces a maximum of 12 months in prison and a $2,500 fine.
She was arrested on Aug. 22 selling marijuana.
